Structural Inspections & Testing
About Crane Structural Inspections
AC3 provides quality crane certification services for mobile, overhead, and container cranes. Our approved surveyors ensure that each crane meets current safety requirements, conducting thorough inspections and testing to confirm compliance with industry guidelines.
Mobile Cranes
AC3 inspects and certifies all terrain, rough terrain, crawler, hydraulic truck, boom truck, and lattice boom cranes throughout California. Our Cal/OSHA approved surveyors perform annual inspections, quadrennial proof load tests at up to 110% of the manufacturer's load ratings per Title 8 Section 5022, and issue the Plate V certificate required to keep your equipment in legal lifting service. We also provide third-party daily inspections for construction jobsites.

Overhead Cranes
AC3 certifies top running, under running, single girder, double girder, monorail, and jib cranes across all industries. Annual inspections and quadrennial proof load tests are conducted at up to 125% of the manufacturer's rated capacity per Title 8 Section 5022, with the proof load traversed the full length of the runway in all directions of operation. If your facility has an overhead crane exceeding three tons, it requires a current Plate V to operate legally in California.

Container Cranes
AC3 provides inspection, certification, and nondestructive testing services for ship-to-shore gantry cranes, rubber tire gantry cranes, rail mounted gantry cranes, straddle carriers, and other port and terminal handling equipment. Our NDT capabilities include visual, magnetic particle, and ultrasonic testing performed by QC1 weld inspectors and ASNT Level II technicians under ASNT Level III oversight. We work with port authorities, terminal operators, and stevedoring companies across California.
Load Testing
Every crane certification includes a comprehensive structural examination per Title 8 Section 5022. Proof load tests are applied at the manufacturer's rated capacity for the conditions of use with the boom in the least stable direction for mobile cranes, or traversed the full length of runway for overhead and monorail cranes. AC3 coordinates test weights, rigging, and logistics to minimize downtime and keep your operations on schedule. When on-site test weight delivery is impracticable, we work within the regulatory framework to document tested capacity and issue the appropriate certification.
